MicroAlgarium is a creative–scientific initiative led by oceanographer, microbial ecologist, and National Geographic Explorer Catherine Ribeiro.

Born from a deep fascination with the microscopic life that powers the oceans, it weaves together scientific research on marine microbiology and storytelling to reveal the hidden world of microalgae and other planktonic organisms to scientists, students, and the general public.

Rooted in scientific research, MicroAlgarium builds on several international projects and expeditions focused on polar and coastal microbial diversity, climate change, and environmental resilience. Together, these initiatives form the foundation of MicroAlgarium’s mission: to connect people with the invisible ocean.
